Welcome! My name is Dawn Balusik. I am a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture Physician with a full-time private practice in Clearwater, Florida since 2004. It is my joy to help people regain and maintain vibrant health and vitality through the use of acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and whole-food nutrition.
Intention of this Blog:
The intention of this blog is to provide an easily accessible place where I can post information for patients and for the interested general public regarding my practice, my take-home recommendations, and my view on the field of complementary/integrative medicine in general. I also hope to spark dialog in the comment sections of the pages that interest them.
Also, please feel free to comment questions or topics that you would like to see me write about.
I am a Florida Licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture Physician. I am also Nationally Certified as a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine, which is an umbrella designation used for Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology along with a modicum of Western medical understanding. I also hold a license in Rhode Island as a Doctor of Acupuncture, as well as in Florida and New Mexico as a Licensed Massage Therapist.
I have a Master of Oriental Medicine Degree and a Bachelor of Professional Health Sciences Degree, both from the East West College of Natural Medicine in Sarasota, FL; a Bachelor of Environmental Geography Degree from Ohio University; a Certification in Acupressure Massage from the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, CA; and a Massage Therapy Diploma from Crystal Mountain School of Massage in Albuquerque, NM. My first two years of Oriental Medical School were conducted at the Southwest Acupuncture College in Albuquerque, NM.
I’ve been in Florida since 2002, and live in Tarpon Springs with my husband and two cats. In my off time I enjoy qi gong, tai chi, walking the beach, causeway or bayou, biking, weight training, yoga, creating healthy food in the kitchen, doting over my cats, nurturing my outdoor plants, receiving acupuncture and massage treatments and reading.
It is my passion to be a resource for those seeking natural, complementary, alternative or integrative medicine to achieve and maintain vibrant health. This means I spend time teaching my patients about how to care for themselves naturally, and I am excited to have this blog as another tool in that endeavor.
